What is the difference between cross lapped spunlace and parallel spunlace?
There are usually 2 types of spunlace nonwoven fabric in the market--parallel spunlace and cross lapped spunlace. The biggest difference between them is the way of forming the fabric and the Cross Direction (CD) strength.
Parallel spunlace nonwoven fabric is a fiber web that comes directly from the carding machine, without needing to pass through a cross-laying machine. The resulting nonwoven fabric has a low basis weight (thin) of 30-80 g/m², and it exhibits significant differences in Machine Direction (MD) and Cross Direction (CD) strength, with lower CD tensile strength and higher MD tensile strength. It can be torn into strips easily in the cross direction.
Cross lapped spunlace nonwoven fabric refers to a fabric surface composed of a fiber web formed firstly pass through a carding machine and then pass through a cross-laying machine. Cross lapped spunlace nonwoven fabric can be made into heavier material with the basis weight ranges from 40 g/m² to 200 g/m². It has the same MD and CD strength and the fabric surface can not be torn easily in neither machine direction or cross direction.
